COSI is lots of fun, with a side of education
Published: Jul 30, 2009
Whether you're the parent of a two-year-old or a teenager, Columbus' COSI is the place to be for fun, learning and excitement. I'm not going to lie, either-- there is a good chance that you'll bring out your inner kid while on the grounds of this enormous operation that features more than 300 exhibits that will sharpen the minds and widen the smiles of children and adults alike.
Learn about outer space in COSI's space exhibit, where you can fly a rocket and learn about rovers, asteroids and comets. Wander around a replica of the International Space Station and feel the effects of gravity in a simulation that is truly out-of-this world.
The Ocean exhibit puts you in an underwater “Dream Scape” where you can learn about water and its role in all life forms on our planet. Poseidon rules over the water playground where little learners can learn about sand erosion, streams and oceanic waves.
The Big Science Park is an outdoor laboratory where the little ones can decide for themselves whether or not science is boring-- and of course, their tell-tale smiles, giggles and shrieks of joy will be all you need to hear for their opinion. Kids can lift an entire car with the help of a pulley and feel the effects of centripetal force as they spin around in the Centripetal Generator.
Even the tiniest of tots can play in the KidSpace exhibit, designed just for smaller children. From infants to kindergarteners, this interactive play area has your family covered. Learn about colors, movement and nature in this fun and exciting world where your child reigns little king or queen.
Other exhibits include “Life”, which covers information on our bodies and health, “Progress”, which charts the history and evolution of modern science, and the Digital Media Center, where visitors can learn about television, video games, computers and more.
Be sure to catch a movie on COSI's “Extreme Screen”: a 7-story tall theater that will put you right in the middle of the action. (Admission to movies is extra.)
An on-site cafe as well as a variety of vending areas are available if you should get hungry or thirsty, and lockers are available in designated areas.
COSI is open Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m. and Sunday from Noon until 6 p.m.
Basic admission is $13.75 for adults and $8.75 for kids 2 – 12. For complete admission information, click here.
