Kelton House Museum brings history to life

At Columbus' Kelton House Museum, the Victorian era really comes to life. Located in the East Town Street Historic District, the Kelton House is a perfectly-preserved example of the urban lifestyle lived by Sophia and Fernando Cortez-Kelton, who owned the house when it was a stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.
Tour guides are dressed in real Victorian clothing, prepared with stories taken directly from the journals of Anna Kelton, daughter to Sophia and Fernando. The rich drapery and décor are original and preserved so perfectly that you'll think you've really transported in time back to the 1800s.
Sophia and Fernando's lifestyle was elegant and indulgent, cutting no corners. The Kelton House is the only preserved-house museum in Columbus, making it a truly unique experience for both Columbus residents and visitors alike. Every last detail down to the silverware, china and even the napkins were literally used by the Kelton family. There is no re-creation at Kelton House-- everything is original.
Remember to gaze upon the grandfather clock that was built in 1790, the brass gaseliers manufactured by the Cornelius and Baker Company in 1851, and the breathtaking paper-mache and mother of pearl chess table from 1825. You can't miss Anna Kelton's journal, either-- a true testament to the rich history of the Kelton family.
