Schmidt's Sausage Haus: authentic German eats in authentic German atmosphere

Schmidt's Sausage Haus has been gracing the city of Columbus with delicious old-world-style German food since 1886. Rightfully located in the heart of German Village, Schmidt's is an icon in the city of Columbus. Reminiscent of authentic German architecture, the building in which Schmidt's is located has a ton of old country charm that only this popular eatery can offer.

This laid-back restaurant is perfect for family dinners, especially if sausages, pierogi, wiener schnitzel and dumplings were staples in your childhood. Even if they weren't, though, you're sure to love the fare at Schmidt's.

Start your meal off right with an order of Schmidt's famous pretzel nuggets-- freshly baked in-house. Served with a sweet mustard sauce, the pretzels are crisp on the outside and soft inside. A bowl of potato soup with spatzel frizzles is also an excellent starter choice.

For dinner, try one of Schmidt's famous sausage platters: German Knockwurst, bratwurst, and hickory-smoked sausage. Other amazing dinner options include Bavarian cabbage rolls with tangy tomato sauce, chicken spatzel with garlic basil sauce, Saurbraten und Gravy with lean beef, spatzel and gingersnap gravy and wiener schnitzel with mushroom gravy.

A buffet is also available during the dinner hour.

Schmidt's also offers a variety of sandwiches. Sausage, corned beef, honey-roasted turkey, and ham are among the savory fillings, which also include lean hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

Be sure to save room for Schmidt's famous cream puffs for dessert. Warm pastry stuffed with lightly-sweetened cream and powdered sugar. Other dessert options include cherry-cheese tarts and, of course, German chocolate cake.
