“The academics are ahead of the public schools, but not as well rounded as many private schools. The communication is terrible, and you are often left to struggle with administration to follow through with promises. If you are a high level volunteer, or if you donate a lot of money, your child will be treated like gold. Otherwise, you will find yoursel fighting every step of the way.”

“Fantastic school! Very high academic standards - on par with the best private schools in the area, but at 1/2 the cost. Teachers are fantastic. Great at individualizing instruction to each child's level of ability (e.g., many 2nd graders go to 3rd grade math). If a child needs extra help the small class sizes allow for individual attention. It is hard to slip through the cracks here. Communication is not a problem. I exchange frequent emails with my children's teachers. We transferred from one of the best public schools in the area and there is no comparison. Our son was getting lost in public school and is now thriving. After his first day, he was amazed at how calm and quiet the class was compared to public school. Diversity is greater than at our highly rated public school too.”

“This is the worst school I have ever experienced for my child. First of all, many of the children in this school are unruly. I made complaints to the faculty of bullying only to be brushed off. My child is a minority and I must say the outreach and attention given to children of color as it relates to transitioning into a school of majority is non-existent. There are great schools in this area of town, and if I could do it over again, I would have enrolled my child in one of the highly rated public schools in the area. The academics are average. Many of the faculty are dishonest regarding communication and disinterested in the child's development. My child went to school only one year here. I wanted to pull my child out after only 3 months. I would not recommend this school - especially for children of color.”

“Communication is definitely a problem, especially when it's concerning your child's progress. They have a lot of testing but never tell us the results. We do not know if our child is ahead or behind in reading and math. This makes it hard to know how to help our child with areas that need work. The classes are very repetitive and some children may get bored with this. The lunch room is always a mess with books and papers strewn about. They have lots of projects and most require extra money. Sometimes it seems more like a charity than a school. Some of the teachers are very young and inexperienced. The tuition is getting pretty expensive now.”

“My son has been a student at Village Academy for six years and we could not find a better environment that encourages respect, independent thinking, and individualized curriculum. Students are involved in academic competitions, sports (where they ALL actually play), music art, drama, etc. and encouraged to be well-rounded individuals. This school has helped our child's self esteem and allowed him to participate in areas he never would have been involved with in a larger public school. For all it offers, the tuition is actually quite low. the communication with staff is extremely good when we have a problem.”

“Our children attended this school from pre-K up to grade 6 before we relocated.It offers a solid foundation and strong curriculum.The teachers are easily accessible.The tuition fees are incredibly reasonable and well worth the investment in your child's future.I recommend this school highly;the curriculum is far ahead of the local public schools. If you desire a nurturing,caring environment for your child consider VA...”

“We have two students at VA, and we find that the academics are good, but there are issues which arise that sometimes aren't handled in a manner we like. We have had issues with after care and some unruly behavior by students, and the school has not responded adequately. In addition, we had a situation with our child being sick and that wasn't handled well either. In both cases the principal failed to contact us or address the matter and we were left to revisit it in order to have it addressed. We are struggling with the value of a private school vs. a public school, and are leaving our children in VA for another year based on their reputation, more so than our personal experience at this point. The school has many great programs, but it still takes people to run it, and things slip through the cracks here.”

“I was in ALL when I went to this school! This school is a dream come true to parents! It caters to the child and the acdemic ability of the child. If your child is in second grade but reads at a forth grade level then the child attends the forth grade reading class. All childern learn to speck a second language starting as early as 1st grade. They also will know how to read music by third grade b/c they start playing music in the third grade! I have never seen a school with systems to insure sucess due upon the ability of ones personal knowledge to always be challanged and never being held back from ones ability!”
