Gahanna West Middle School Reviews

I rate this school in the top catigory. Due to the staff, principal, and the team work that has been available for me and my family. My son recently became a member of his community, after 10 years of being in a program for autistic children. He has been included with typical students, and is doing very well. I want to take the time to thank the GJPS system, staff, and the love, and suport they offered to us. He was in need of extra support, and I cannot thank the team for not just thinking about them selves. I want ot give a special shout out to the principle as well as his team who has been WONDERFUL. I can not thank the intervention specialist enough. She is an angel here on earth. I must say. Transitioning our son back has been wonderful. He is totally a different child.

I am a parent of a student attending GMSW and my son was in a private school in Westerville. My son loves the middle school in Gahanna and enjoys all the opportunities the school offers. The principal is very personable and professional as is all the front office staff. The teachers are very talented and communication has been the best I have ever had with a school anywhere. I have been pleasantly suprised by the welcome we have received and would recommend this school very highly.

I know Gahanna West has been known the so called 'Ghetto' schools in Gahanna I know this because my son went to East and South (re-districting) but it has gone beyond that name to being one of if not being the best middle school in Gahanna. Their sports teams are phenominal not only on the feild but also educationally. their school test scores have risen up from the past 3-4 years and now it has turned into the nicest, safest, and plain out best public middle school in gahanna right now.

Middle School West receives federal aide to educate students with 'behaviors'. During the three years that my SED child attended GMSW, (we live in the GMSE district), he was repeated suspended for fighting and/or use of profanity. As a single parent, I experienced great anxiety knowing my child was at home serving a 3-5 day suspension while I was at work. The YMCA Juvenile Justice Program, offers an alternative to suspension with it's PALS (Positive Alternative Learning for Students) program. The PALS program provides individual/group counseling and intensive behavior supervision. The community benefits from the YMCA PALS program because youth are kept off the streets during a suspension period. They are provided the opportunity to continue their academics in a supportive environment and interact w/trained staff who help them improve their attitude/behaviors. I only recenty became aware of the PALS program. Shouldn't the school(s) parnership w/the YMCA to promote character building?

I am currently a student at Gahanna Middle School South and this school is excellent! We have great programs that help each student. For students that fall behind catching up is simple. For students who excel in some acedemic areas we are able to be challenged. The extracurricular activities are also wonderful. There is not one teacher that is not involved in the learning process at our school. Our principal is one of the greatest I have had. The saftey and discipline is well taken care of. Overall this is a great school, and I should know because this isn't the first middle school I have been too.
